Upright Bass · Jazz
The bass is his space.
A young New York presence with an old-soul center.
Esteban Ruiz is a New York–based professional upright bassist. Comfortable onstage and grounded in the acoustic tradition of jazz, upright bass is his primary instrument and professional focus.
During the day, Esteban continues his musical journey at The New School in NYC on a full-tuition scholarship, where his instructors include Reggie Workman, Ben Wolfe, and David Wong. Come sunset, Esteban hones his craft wherever the jazz is good and the vibe is right.
Selected performance credits include multiple appearances at Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest and Chris’ Jazz Café in Philadelphia, as well as performances at Marians Jazzroom as part of the International Jazz Festival Bern, and at the Rochester International Jazz Festival. In New York City, Esteban has performed with various ensembles at Dizzy’s Club, SMOKE Jazz Club, Smalls Jazz Club, Mezzrow, Zinc Bar, Ornithology Jazz Club, The Django, Close Up, The Pocket, One Flight Up, Corner Lounge Bistro, and Birds.
As his schedule permits, Esteban also leads the Esteban Ruiz Trio, continuing to shape his sound as a bandleader.
